The school year has started, and I am excited about my new project! My name is Nat. I am a junior at Emma Willard School.
When I was 9 years old (2008, the year of subprime mortgage crisis), I heard my dad talking in a new language, that, honestly, I still do not clearly understand. I was introduced to new vocabulary like “circuit breaker”, which had nothing to do with electricity, or “bear”, which was not an animal. The curiosity planted the seed. It grew over the years. Though I regret that I did not water it and let it die slowly. Fast forward to spring 2016, I participated in New York State High School Business Plan competition. That spring, my curiosity rooted again. At the beginning of summer, I read a book called “Rich dad poor dad”, which was eye-opening. I remember one quote: “If you work for money, you give the power up to your employer. If your money works for you, you keep and control the power.” I know, I had the same question, “yeah, but how?” Simple. Invest. I began my first step of learning this “language” with my summer internship at a securities company in Bangkok, my hometown. As the plant grows bigger, it needs more water. Sadly, this topic is not normally taught in schools. However, experiential education is believed to be more effective, thus, The Stock Market Studies Project was initiated. I will be exploring the stock market through a simulator using virtual money. Moreover, my AP Psychology class has sparked my interest in a field of finance called “behavioral finance”. I will be studying the connection between the behavior of investors and financial crises, that once had great impacts on the stock market. I hope that my plant will bloom this spring.
